Wrapping June up looking forward to July in Montauk

Good morning anglers,

The month of June was very solid in my book. We had a few open boat trips and a couple charters. Fishing has improved and is only going to get better as Montauk shines in July and August.

Typical catches over the past 10 days saw the larger Fluke in the 7.5lbs Range. Averaging a 1/2 a dozen keeper Fluke and a limit of beautiful Sea Bass for most trips.

Wednesday saw an open boat trip with Louie, Rick, Bernie and Mike. The guys fished hard and limited out on tasty Sea Bass and a good number of Fluke to 7 lbs.

On Saturday Mitch’s family and friends were out; Mitch had high hook and the big Fluke of the day pushing the 8 lb mark. We were also treated to a mess of large Red Hake.

On Sunday 6/30, dog fish took over Montauk. By days end we were able to  find some waters that were void of the pesky fish and limited out on some of the most colorful Sea Bass I’ve ever seen this year. Plenty of short Fluke were mixed in with the keepers to keep the action up and down for most of the afternoon.

I was invited to fish along on the Grand Slam for a first responders trip with Mike Ansul on July 2nd. Mike is a true gentleman who gives back and supports our military and first responders multiple times a year. We did well on live baits. I landed 2 fish in the low to mid 40’s, which were immediately released. The big Bass have arrived and are taking live baits.

The open dates for the rest of July are as follows. A * INDICATES PRIME STRIPED BASS TIDE AROUND THE MOON.
