August full moon 8/25-9/3

Good evening anglers,   Last week on the back side of the new moon we had some up and down fishing. Some of the trips were very good while others we bent the rods well but keepers were harder to come by. As far as the Bass bite, Sunday 8/12 am trip was good with fish to 45 lbs on live bait then it seems the bite turned off. I got word of few fish that were around later on in the week so that is promising for this upcoming moon. A large body of Fluke from what I am hearing has set in over south of Block Island. My plan is to run an open boat trip Saturday September 1 over to Block Island. […]

Valley of the Doormats

Good afternoon anglers,   It has been a busy week on the Misty Dawn II! The Bass seemed to had slowed down a bit after Friday night but bounced back Monday. A nice body of Fluke has invaded Montauk; Sunday morning we started seeing a greater amount of fish and larger fluke in the area. Tuesday’s Fluke trip was EPIC. August is the month to target Doormats in Montauk!   Friday was a crew trip including Captain Jim, Charlie, and myself. It was the kind of Bass fishing that Montauk is known for! For 3 hours it was lock and load Bass to 42lbs (that one was released) and we left them biting. Strange occurrence of the night was bringing in a Bass that had […]

July Full Moon and August in Montauk

Good night anglers,   I took last week off and this upcoming week for my family.   While i was off captain Jim ran 3 trips on the July new moon. He reported excellent Bass fishing with limits on all 3 trips up to 46lbs. He also reported fantastic Scup and Sea Bass fishing.     I anticipate some good fishing on this upcoming moon as a nice body of Bass have set up in the rips off Montauk Point. On the Fluke Grounds The end of July through August is my favorite time to target Doormat Fluke. As of the last week a few beautiful double digit Fluke have been landed in Montauk, i only anticipate fishing to get better and better.     Feel […]

Big Bass are in Montuak

Good Morning Anglers, Some big Bass showed up this week in Montauk. Fluke fishing is hot and cold. Friday, June 29th we battled a large ground swell from the day before, which left the ocean water dirty and turned. Victor Tang and Peter from Book Fishing Trips (Fisherman Depot tackle center in Queens) brought a crew out in the am. We started off live bait fishing for bass and were rewarded with a bunch of bites. After landing 3 and dropping a few, the boys wanted to go Fluke fishing. The 4-7 foot swell and dirty water turned the bottom fish bite off. We made numerous moves and finally found a pile of fish away from the swell in the afternoon. The guys landed a […]

June 20 June 26 and June 27 Trips.

Wednesday June 20 We ran an open boat. Bernie once again showed off his Fluke skills, boating 3 nice Fluke to 6 lbs.  There were a good amount of fish and bait in the locations we visited. Tuesday June 2   Tuesday June 2 We had the pleasure of sailing with Joe, Jeff, and crew from the Atlantis Anglers fishing club. Despite near perfect weather conditions, we had a slow, non existent drift most of the day. We bounced around from spot to spot with not much to show but small Sea Bass. On the last move we found a body of fish willing to chew. The action picked up and the boys iced a few for dinner, while playing catch and release with a […]

Good Fluke fishing Tuesday 6/12 -upcoming open dates

Good evening anglers,   Monday 6/11 we pushed off the dock into a building easterly breeze. We started with a Porgy drop and the two porgy sharpies on the boat put a bunch in the cooler in no time. Then it was off to the Fluke grounds. An east wind with a fast drift made for some tough fishing. After a few moves we found a pile of Fluke we worked on and were able to boat a few before days end. There were plenty of keeper Sea Bass caught and released, a good sign of things to come on June 27.   Tuesday 6/12 was a turn around. Beautiful weather and better conditons were on tap. I decided to take a ride to  differenet […]

Bigger Fluke have arrived in Montauk

Good morning anglers,           I was able to get off the dock the last few days despite the blow on Sunday. My good friend Bob Gaffney and family invited me to come fish on their new center console. I used this to my advantage fishing numerous spots in Montauk. Alot of bait is around including sandeels, big squid, and the bluefish were chewing on  4-6 inch juvenile fish possibly porgies maybe weakfish or butterfish??.  A quick stop in some sloppy conditions yeilded Bluefish up to 10 lbs. Im sure if we spent more time we would have Jigged up a couple Bass but the conditions were not faverable. We ran off in search of Fluke and we found some. In just […]
